Google+ Will Be Shutting Down After 500,000 Users Information Exposed

Google will be shutting down its social network Google Plus, After  it suffered a massive breach of about 500,000 users data exposed that was discovered, Google did not tell its users about the security vulnerability when it was found in March.

Ben Smith, a Google Vice President for engineering, wrote in the blog post
Google looked at the “type of data involved, whether we could accurately identify the users to inform, whether there was any evidence of misuse, and whether there were any actions a developer or user could take in response. None of these thresholds were met in this instance,”

The vulnerability was found since 2015 and later fixed in March 2018 after Google discovered about it, but didn't disclose it to the public because at that time Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO was testing in congressional hearings about Cambridge Analytica.

Google Plus was introduced in 2011, that was meant to be a competitor to Facebook which linked users to different Google Products, But Google plus later had low usage, And after this vulnerability was later discovered engineers working in Google later concluded that the work required to maintain Google Plus is not worth the efforts and considering shutting it down.

Google Plus consumer version will be turn off  in August 2019,  and also a version built for corporate customers will exists.
